Unto the Breach

Despite several visits to Akihabara over the past couple of weeks (since I use the Sobu Line to travel between my apartment and Tokyo, I pass through Akihabara on a regular basis), I've managed to avoid spending much money on anime goods. Until today, that is.

Here's what I picked up:

  • A boatload of pencil boards and clear files (duh).
  • Ai Yori Aoshi Enishi: Miyuki DVD, with Santa Aoi standee and handkerchief
  • Mizuiro 2003 DVD 1 & 2, OST, OP+ED
  • Kita e - Diamond Dust Drops DVD box 1 & 2

All of the DVDs are actually used, but like most everything used for sale in Akihabara, they're in immaculate condition. The Ai Yori Aoshi set was marked down to 780 yen ($7 US). The Mizuiro set was 5,480 yen ($49). Of course, the Diamond Dust Drops boxes were a tad expensive: 27,600 yen ($247) for both combined. Toss in the 4,359 yen ($39) for the pencil boards, and the total damages were 38,219 yen ($342).

And, yeah, I know ADV has licensed Diamond Dust Drops, but considering how poorly niche titles have been selling for them lately, I wouldn't be surprised if they relinquish the license someday rather than release it. So, I figured I should grab the R2 while I could. It's a nice set, too.

Taking lessons from moyism, it seems. ;p

Let me take a moment to drool over you stash. ^___^

Wow. 780 yen for the Ai Yori Aoshi set? Delightful!

Just looking at all those pencil boards and clear files is making it hard for me to do anything else... I'm glad they're not mine, because I'd never get anything done.

Aww, no Kujibiki?

Awesome! Amazing you managed to find the Ai Yori Aoshi set for so cheap, I didn't think even used things were that cheap in anime stores in Japan.

wow im just amazed that you spent $340 on anime misc stuff.

Let me first say that I enjoy your blogs and find your comments very helpful and thought provoking in a good way. I like to praise you for your website. Having said all that, I can't shake the thought that hit my head after looking at the pictures above: You need a girlfriend, or if you already have one, hope she is very understanding of your hobbies. My wife shares my interest in various animations and manga( yes, there are some very good manga in Korean ), but she will kill me if she find me playing the games mentioned in your blog unless it has magical fighting in it( She actually is a better Civ 2 and Warcraft player compared to me ).

Jeff Lawson | August 19, 8:40 AM

Wontaek...what planet are you on? Games? Where have I mentioned games? Hell, I'm not even a gamer in the first place.

Wontaek | August 20, 2:49 PM

My mistake. I saw that many of the animes you mentioned were from games, thus supposed that you played many of them. Still, may I be bold enough to claim that you have preference for cute looking girls in anime opposed to bit more serious stuffs or sci-fi? I guess you are leaving the discussions for anime like 'Twelve Kingdoms' and 'Banner of Stars' to their dedicated sites, but there are enough young, pretty faces on the pictures above to make most girl friends jealous and many amles to accuse you of Lolita-Complex, an accusion many anime lovers routinely face. May I add that your preference of female character is similar to my son's as well?

Very good!! muy bueno, muy bueno lo de las chinas, chinas, japonesas, koreanas, jejeje.
HASTA PRONTO.
