Ichigo 100% 07

The first half of this episode simply didn't work. The only thing that saved it, really, was Yui's appearance. And, unfortunately, even she found a way to grate on my nerves before all was said and done.

As for the second half - well, the show has suddenly become very, very frustrating. I'll be honest: the idea that Junpei could be so confused about his feelings for these three girls (four, once they finally find a way to work Yui into the mix) is utterly ridiculous. It would seem the only reason for his confusion is to prevent the story from moving forward, even in the slightest. In other words, it's wholly artificial. The fact that Tsukasa would bid him farewell for no particular reason reinforces that. For Tsukasa and Junpei to finally get together would upset the status quo, so any plot progression that brings the two closer has to be cut off at some point - regardless of whether it makes sense or not.

The sad thing is, Junpei pairing up with a single girl (say, Tsukasa) would do wonders for the story. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned and all...

If Junpei intends to play the field - or avoid the field, to be more exact - for the remainder of the show, I doubt I'll stick around long enough to see how things turn out.

And thus why I can't STAND this series, anime or manga.

rixot | May 25, 8:45 AM

It's like a really bad I"s...

Albert | May 25, 11:00 AM

Yeah, it doesn't really get much better. More girls keep getting thrown into the mix and Junpei keeps being indecisive. I gave up on the manga when the fifth girl gets introduced.

adamatari | May 25, 5:02 PM

If it follows the manga, almost nothing will take forever to happen. From what I understand, the manga is still running (in place). On the bright side, it does become clear later that only two of the girls really are in the running.

In many respects, this is a lot like most romantic manga; Maison Ikkoku took forever, as did I"s and Kimagure Orange Road. It also looks (sadly) quite likely that things will turn out as expected, with the first girl that appears being "the one". I just wish that, just once, one of the other girls could win...

Sai | May 25, 6:40 PM

Comparing it to Orange Road and Maison Ikkoku may be stretching it a bit, consider the number of girls that are involved. I would rather say more along the lines of the author of Love Hina trying to write something like Orange Road or Maison Ikkoku......I think.

But yeah, the indecisiveness is only fun for 10 minutes, then it gets old. There's no real reason behind it, if you ask me.

zwik | May 25, 9:15 PM

I'll just flat out say that comparing this to Orange Road is not a stretch, but way off base. I'm a huge fan of that show and this doesn't come close. While Kyouske was utterly sure of who he loved, he dreaded hurting Hikaru for the fear of ruining their relationship. This whole thing (and I haven't watched 7 yet) is a farce, because he has no real friendship with anyone. They come and go and when the plot needs to change she goes away because she can't possibly be "The one." Unfortunately, this is typical of the Harem Comedy nowadays.

Jeff Lawson | May 25, 9:30 PM

I'd agree that comparisons to Kimagure Orange Road and/or Maison Ikkou are off the mark, if simply for the fact the male protagonist in each of those two stories has his eye set on one girl and one girl only. In the case of Ichigo 100%, it doesn't appear as if Junpei has any preference whatsoever (regardless of the "All signs point to Aya!" premise).

And, whereas the primary purpose of the story in both KOR and MI was to push the one true romance forward - very slowly, of course - the story in Ichigo 100% is akin to a dog chasing its tail.

As Zwik points out, the way in which the girls enter and leave Junpei's life only when the plot sees it as convenient is ridiculous. I mean, how many times has Tsukasa "dumped" him thus far? That's especially silly when you consider she's the only one to truly open her heart to him.

Sharie Park | May 25, 9:45 PM

Ichigo 100% is very different in the anime and the manga, when we compare the pace. The pace is insanely fast in the anime so you barely get to see the relationships development you see in the manga.

Basically, Junpei's main girls are Tsukasa and Aya. Yui, if they keep it to the manga, will never be one of his 'choices'. She'll always remain his childhood friend. She never likes him either. The rest of the girls, unfortunately, all like him (and I'm not entirely sure why!). But it's not too typical a harem show because Junpei's wavering choice between Tsukasa and Aya (if they keep it to the manga anyway) culminates in a rather interesting fashion. Manga hasn't ended yet but it's reaching the climax point, and I'll say that Ichigo 100% first came across to me as a semi-standard comedy - but currently the drama is drawing me in.

Bah! I talk too much.

Clrwnd | May 25, 10:52 PM

just finished the 15 book of manga, they add another girl into the mix, 3 more actually.... it's going to run in place for a long time.... is it just me or is this episode really really poorly drawn.

JTGuu | May 26, 12:31 PM

Tsukasa accepted his confession and then... well, nothing really happened. Only sorta-dates and his mind was never really on her, so she got frustrated when she felt she liked him in return and he seemed apathetic. So, she "tested" him, in a way, to see how he really felt and (as always) he felt UNSURE! So, being a smart girl, she booted him to the curb.

Anyway, if you're hoping Manaka will choose one and get serious or semi-serious with her, then forget it. The whole story is about all these girls (6 or so at this point in the manga) falling for Manaka and he since he "likes them all equally" he cannot choose. It's terribly frustrating to read/watch, but knowing that he won't be choosing anyone any time soon MIGHT make it easier to watch. I have my own guess on who he'll "end up with" in the end, and that's the one he started with. The main reason this and other episodes are especially frustrating is because they glossed over a lot of things, like mentioned in other comments.

In effect, Manaka is a penis and doesn't deserve any of the girls. Forget him and just focus on the girls themselves who are ALL quite nice and interesting, all very different.

UncleGene | May 28, 10:30 PM

In the end, the series comes down to 4 girls. And that's a stretch, considering Yui and Satsuki probably don't stand a chance.

To say this series is like Ken Akamatsu trying to write Orange Road is a pretty silly idea. Even in Love Hina, the protagonist knew who he loved.

Hai | June 5, 3:44 PM

The show isn't too bad, I feel like want to watch more.

anyway, as a manga to anime transfer, this show is bad compare to the origional manga. It skipped too much important moment that often time I found the anime make no sensce at some point. I found the missing story in manga...but man, they really did a poor job on making the anime. and this is the first show that actually make charactors look worse than manga, I mean, girls in manga look pretty but look kind of bored in the anime.

I still enjoy the anime, but I enjoy manga much more.
