I think they increased the animation budget. The money would be better spent on decent English voice acting, though...
At least Mr. John Lee Davis sounded convincing. Why the show used the best acting talent it had for a character that only appears once, however, is beyond me. I'm starting to wonder if it's all a big joke.
I'm surprised you didn't mention how freaking bad the Dying Breed documentary was. If I were a Dying Breed fan, I would've been disgusted. The fan responses after it were a joke. I couldn't see this helping Koyuki's career in the real world.
Well, I got the impression the documentary was "good" in the same sense the English voice acting is "good". In other words, it stinks. But, as long as the characters in the show think it's award-winning work, it fits the needs of the story.
I mean, consider: is Koyuki really all that amazing a singer? Is Beck really that good a band? Of course not. For that matter, what makes Dying Breed so special? And why are they such a big hit in Japan?
This raises an interesting question, however: clearly, those of us who are native English speakers have reason to laugh about the voice acting, but what about the average Japanese viewer? It probably doesn't sound all that strange to him or her.
Yea, i got a little frustrated every time they attempted to speak English. But, i have to admit… out of all the foreign dramas and animations i've seen so far, this is sadly the best attempt. hahaHah
