Mahoraba - Heartful Days 01
|

Ever since I first started watching anime, I've had this strange attraction to stories that take place in aging Japanese apartment buildings. Sure, it's overly romanticized in most cases, but there's something about the setting I find appealing.
So, yeah, I think I'm going to like this show. There's an interesting mix of oddball characters, an adorable female lead, and a clever hook. Did I mention the adorable female lead? Honestly, I was sold the minute Kozue first appeared on screen.
Anyway, it's a JC Staff show, so everything looks great. The character designs are heavy on the cute and light on realism (it's a little hard to believe some of the characters are adults), but I can't complain. They look great. Especially Kozue. Did I mention Kozue yet?
I'm very much looking forward to more...of Kozue. Well, everyone else, too. But especially Kozue.
Oh, the series I would've never given a second glance without Jeff Lawson! The little I heard about this series didn't interest me...but it grabbed my attention rather well. I hope it keeps up its pace! I also hope I'm not the only one who thinks the puppet guy looks like Nanjirou Echizen from The Prince of Tennis.
The only problem I have with this show is that no one looks their age.
Whatshisname does NOT look like he's nearly nineteen, and I'm assuming Kozue is about the same age.
Oh, and does she remind anyone else of Tohru Honda? Especially with the insanely short skirt.
I think the young appearance thing is supposed to indicate immaturity. None of them are ACTING like adults, either.
On the other hand, either I'm imagining it, or Mahoraba is throwing a lot of subtle jabs at ren'ai/harem shows, and the character designs are definitely involved in that. (Look at Megumi.) So that could be it too.
Sorry, but comments for this post are now closed.
