It's been a long wait, but now that's here, it's better than I ever imagined. How 'bout that?
On the basis of the first episode alone, I have a difficult time finding any flaws. Sure, the story is very rushed, but that's to be expected. There's simply no way to compress the story of the original game into a 13 episode TV series without permanently setting the pace to turbo. Such could prove to be the show's Achilles Heel in the end, but this first episode at least did a spectacular job of getting most of the characters introduced and the premise of the story established in what short time there was to work with.
But, putting that aside, the production values are really something to behold. The animation is stunning. The music is a real treat. The voices are perfect. The OP and ED are both wonderful, lifted straight from the game itself. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, I guess. It's a shame Kanon didn't get this treatment.
Hopefully, the show will continue to meet the high standards set by both the game and this first episode.

The Jay Leno chins are back. I didn't like Kanon all that much. From what I gathered from Anime News Network, not much staff from Kanon is working on Air, which will hopefully be a good thing. Air seems very good so far.
I didn't think that Kanon was bad per se. The only thing I really didn't like was the character design.. and that's repeated here. Yikes.
Agh, these are definitely suffering from Big Eyes Small Mouth (BESM) syndrome. Besides that, there is something... in the chara designs that makes them feel off-key. It could be that the eyes are giving the impression of a supersized head.
So, what's the deal with this show? So far it seems to be preparing to get its feet wet in lolikon waters (not surprising if this is based on a H-game). And that's not my cup of tea.
-Basically- it's the story of three girls and their messed up lives. Not much romance involved.
Have a box of kleenex handy if you decide to keep watching - it gets quite sad (in my opinion, but I cry easily).
I'm really happy to see that the overall feel of it it fits really well with the original game design and feel. I'm particularlly happy to see that the music is the same from the game (only slightly tweaked here and there). The Kanon TV series just felt different because there was a whole 'nother layer of stuff on top of it, like the game just heavily influenced the TV series.
Really liking it so far (yeah, like that's suprise for me) I hope the production vaules keep pace with the remaining eps. Don't just dismiss it outa hand, tho admitedly it's not gonna be the feel good series of the year :)
The background music often made it feel like the game "come to life", especially in that initial scene following the OP when Yukito and Misuzu meet. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy.
I've watched the episode four times now - twice raw, twice subbed. I'm digging it, no doubt.
I wish it could be 26 episodes instead of 13, I don't believe the beauty of the story could be told in 13 episodes only.
