Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha 01

Could the transformation sequence have been any more involved? Or, for that matter, any more pervy?

Yes, it's your standard magical girl show, but I like the package. Nanoha and her friends are cute, the writing is good, and the animation is solid. There are some funky CG moments, but they look fine. A little out of place in spots, but fine nonetheless.

And I've been digging the OP theme ever since Matthew started raving about it a couple weeks ago. Best OP of the season? Perhaps.

Anyway, I'll definitely be keeping up, even though I need another show to watch like I need a hole in the head.

didn't the dinner (where N. asks her parents about keeping the ferret) scene look weird? It had too much animation, everybody was moving. it looked so strange, I felt like getting animation-sickness from too much movement.

Her brother and sister creep me out.

>didn't the dinner (where N. asks her parents about keeping the ferret) scene look weird?

It looked strange only because it is hardly ever done for scenes like that. The Nanoha animation staff must have a somewhat large budget, considering that the dinner table wasn't the only point in episode one (and in later episodes) where there is rather nice animation. Personally, I like how it was a bit unique that we got more than little to no animation or stock animation in the scene.

Jeff Lawson | October 24, 8:50 PM

The fancy animation showed up in a later scene as well, although it wasn't quite as jarring. On its own, it looked fine (although, Nanoha's sister looked like she was on her sixth glass of wine), but in context of the entire episode, it was definitely weird.

But, as Link suggests, they may simply have a lot of budget to work with. I mean, that transformation sequence was ridiculous.

Fencedude | October 24, 8:57 PM

It was also weird because the character designs were noticibly different in that scene.

And the way her sister was moving was very, very odd.

Mango | October 25, 9:42 AM

To Fencedude God yes, the brother and sister seemed more like a couple then a normal family relationship. Yeah and the anime did seem somewhat wrong in those scenes.

Momotato | October 25, 2:47 PM

Just for reference, so far no scenes in episodes 2-4 feature the art style/over-animation from the dinner table scene in episode one. I believe it'll be a one time thing...
