Soukyuu no Fafner 01

A little heavy on the drama, but interesting nonetheless. Honestly, the episode was almost tiring to watch given the fast-paced action and drama that bordered on the ridiculous, but if it can calm down a little in later episodes, it may prove to be a good show.

I actually like the character designs, although I can't help but wonder why everyone is so pale. I mean, they live on what looks to be a subtropical island and all. You'd think they'd all have pretty healthy tans.

But, that aside, the character designs work for me. And I love the detailed backgrounds (of course!). I want to see more of the show simply so I can ogle the beautiful setting.

Also, the show looks to have a true musical score. It's overblown at times, but it fits the mood. Regardless, full orchestral scores have become a rarity - I'm already looking forward to the soundtrack.

I'm by no means a big mecha fan, but there looks to be enough here to hold my interest for now. I'll continue watching.

I liked the orchestral music in there, too. Nice to hear it. Especially liked the piece that played in the beginning. I'll probably end up getting the soundtrack if the rest is that good ;)

heh..cliche sayings abound ("trust me") but real nice animation. i'd rather regard this as eye candy if nothing else :p
btw, am i the only one seeing deja vu w/ gseed char designs..kazuki=athrun..hmm..

Saturnova, you're not the only one:

It's pretty much a large scale rip-off operation (just like Gundam Seed itself?).

Go take a look at Gundam Seed, or Ryvius, or SCryEd, they all have the same character designer.

Actually, Soushi is an almost exact lookalike of Cagalli Yula Attha, a FEMALE character from Gundam Seed, and Kazuki is a twin of (male) Aslan (Athrun) Sala of the same series. Cagalli and Aslan are lovers; hmm.
Only this time the charas look like they're a bit more tanned -- no wonder when you're living on an island.

And the little girl with the black hair looks like a chibi version of Arashi from X.

Oh, and Fafner: Take away the wings, and you have got a Pro-Ing from Pilot Candidate (or Candidate for Goddess, or Megami Kouhai)
