Le Portrait de Petit Cossette 01

That was delightfully trippy.

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it, though. The direction was definitely unique, but not necessarily upsetting - even despite the fact I usually don't go for this jumpy, fast-cut, timeline bending sort of style. I actually thought Director Akiyuki Shinbo showed a certain amount of restraint, regardless of how weird it got at times.

That said, I'm still left feeling rather blasé about the whole thing. The story that's been revealed so far is interesting enough, and the production standards are high as can be. And even though I think Kajiura Yuki is somewhat overrated as a composer, her musical style fit the mood and direction perfectly. I can honestly say that the episode had my undivided awe from start to finish.

But, in the end, I don't feel as if I want to see more. Maybe it has something to do with the way the episode ended. Maybe it has something to do with how much (or how little) of the story was revealed. Maybe it's the pacing. Or maybe it's just sensory overload.

I don't know.

I have to say I totally agree with you. When I first saw the trailer I was kind of excited that there was finally going be an anime that's abit out there and different. However after watching the first OVA..uhmmmmm....disappointing.....but since it's only 3 OVA's might stick with it for now and see what happens.

I was thinking of blogging this one but after seeing the first episode I thought unless episode two becomes more interesting, I don't think I'll waste the time. Which is a shame, really, because I really like the mood and the character design. It's just that I think they ruin the story by sticking that monster in the middle of the episode.
